The falls and broken bones are piling up this year for motocross rider Jeffrey Herlings. The five-time world champion has barely recovered from his previous injury, breaking his collarbone during a fall in Vlissingen on Saturday. Motocrossplanet.nl reports on this.
Video footage shows Herlings coming into contact with a fallen straggler while crossing the beach and falling. Herlings will be out of action for some time due to the new setback. Normally, the KTM rider would have recovered in time for the start of the 2024 World Championship on March 10 in Argentina. Its preparation was seriously delayed.
Record victories
2023 was an unfortunate year for Herlings, 29, even though he improved Stefan Everts’ record of Grand Prix victories to 103. He twice had to abandon his World Cup campaign due to broken bones. As a result, he missed eight World Cup weekends and fell short of eighth place in the final standings. He rode his last Grand Prix on August 13 in Sweden.
Injuries are a common thread throughout his motocross career. Otherwise he would have come close to Everts’ record of world titles (ten).
