BzV viewers sympathize with exhausted Bernice: ‘It’s crazy too’
“Farmer Seeks Woman” opens with perhaps one of the most exciting moments of the season: unpacking and reading all the letters. How many messages were sent? Is this one letter between them? Farmer Bernice is on her side: she receives no fewer than 430 messages. However, she doesn’t seem happy about it: she reads all the letters patiently and can’t help but smile. In a conversation with Yvonne Jaspers (50 years old), the monkey quickly appears.
“When you decide you’re going to like someone, that’s also terrifying.”
When Yvonne arrives at Bernice with the letters, she is terrified. The announcer has a huge box full of letters with her. It turns out not to be the case: she tells Bernice and her sister outside, where several full boxes are waiting. Bernice was completely flabbergasted when Yvonne told her there were at least 430 letters.

She admits to Yvonne that she has little experience with men. “I’m in my own bubble, with my dog and my company.” When Yvonne asks her how long she has come across a potential candidate, she has to reluctantly admit that this has never been a problem. She never spoke to the man she loved. “And now there are 430!” Yvonne confronts her. “Welcome to your new life. I don’t know how happy you are with it now.”

Yvonne notices this well, because Bernice shows no form of enthusiasm while reading the letters. “It’s very difficult to know who makes you excited,” Yvonne continues. “No, I think quickly: it won’t work anyway,” Bernice admits. “I get it very quickly, it has to come from both sides. I have to love someone too.”
Yvonne can see through it. “It’s very easy to think, ‘I’ll never love anyone,’ because then there’s no need for anything. If you decide you’re going to love someone, that’s terrifying, too.” Bernice decides to keep sending letters, but soon feels anxious again. “Really, really intense, it’s completely haunting my head.” Yvonne decided to step in and help her, so they could still choose.
