Lamborghini Super Trofeo: Leach European Champion After a thrilling battle for the title, Bondwell wins the World Final

The start of one of the 16 Lamborghini Super Trofeo competitions

For Lamborghini, November was all about the Super Trofeo Season Finals for the Asian, European and North American Championships as well as the Super Trofeo World Finals. No fewer than sixteen races were held at the Autodromo Vallelonga Piero Taruffi near the Italian capital, Rome. Brendon Leach (Lippert Motorsport) was crowned European Champion. His competitor Amaury Bonduel (BDR Compétition by Grupo Prom) took the world title. Daan Pijl, who races on Rebelleo by Bonaldi Motorsport as “Daan Arrow”, once again scored consistently good points. There were also podium successes for both Yelmer Buurman and Nigel Schoonderwoerd (Iron Lynx).

Super Trofeo Europe

For teams and drivers in the European Championship, not two but four races were held to make up for the canceled round at Imola. Additionally, the Pro and Pro-Am competitors were separated from the Am and Lamborghini Cup competitors. Mattia Michelotto and Jill Studsbader (VSR) won the first race from pole for Bondwell. Larjim Ali and Oliver Soderstrom (Target Racing) completed the podium in the Pro class. Leach had to settle for P7 after making contact with Rodrigo Testa (Iron Lynx) on the opening lap. Andrei Lewandowski and Loris Spinelli (VSR) were victorious in the Pro-Am championship after a Frederik Schandorff (Target Racing) engine exploded. Emanuele Colombini and Emanuele Zonzini (Iron Lynx) finished second in class, despite the bizarre moment when Colombini spun on Schandorff oil and nearly scooped the Dane who had just exited his Huracan. In the second race, Testa defeated Lewandowski in the final round to take the overall victory with Ugo de Wilde. Leitch finished second ahead of Pro-Am winners Lewandowski and Spinelli. Bormann and Schonderwoerd finished second in the Pro-Am.

In the third race in Vallelonga, Michelotto and Stadsbader were able to keep Leach behind them to take victory in an incredibly exciting battle. Lewandowski and Spinelli won again in the Pro-Am and that was enough for the former Pole to win the category title. In the fourth race, Ali and Soderstrom took their only win of the season. Bondwell was trailing Leach during the pit stops, but still finished third behind Sebastian Baltazar and Marzio Moretti (Team Oregon). That was enough for the New Zealander to capture the professional title. Title contenders Michelotto and Stadsbader were winless at the end of the season due to a time penalty, but they would not have won the championship even without that penalty. Pijl finished seventh in the Pro Championship with Abbie Eaton after taking P5, P7, P8 and P7 at Vallelunga. Lewandowski and Spinelli finished the European season with a Pro-Am victory, while Bormann and Schonderwoerd took the podium in the fifth division.

In the first race of the Am class and the Lamborghini European Championship Cup, Giovanni Annapoli and Bergiacomo Randazzo (VSR) won. Ibrahim Badawi (Lamborghini Roma of DL Racing) crossed the finish line in second place from first place, but dropped to sixth place due to a time penalty after he passed Alban Farotti (Autovetici), so Pierre Figioni, Renault Coppens (Boutzen VDS), and Gabriel Rendon. (Liebert Motorsport) on the podium. Jürgen Krebs (Liebert Motorsport) won the Lamborghini Cup after a spin from Paolo Leonardo Biglieri (Bonaldi Motorsport). Elie Dobelli (Boutsen VDS) started from pole position in race two, after which Badawi held off Farotti’s teammate Julien Piguet to take the win. Krebs beat Jason Keats and Charlie Martin (Brutal Fish Racing Team) to once again win the Lamborghini Cup. Piguet and Varotti won the third race in the Am class for Badawi, while Krebs took his third win at Vallelonga in the Lamborghini Cup. Piguet and Varotti also won the fourth race. Badawi was on the verge of winning the amateur championship until he faltered in the final stages. Third place was enough for Rendon to take the title. There was also drama in the Lamborghini Cup. Donovan and Luciano Previtilio (Iron Lynx) won the championship there, after Krebs lost decisive points by being overtaken on the last lap by the Belgian duo Kenneth Linthout and Mario Martel (Totalplan Racing).

North American Super Cup in Asia

In the North American Super Trofeo Championship, pro champions Danny Formal and Kyle Marcelli (Wayne Taylor Racing) took their ninth and tenth wins in a twelve-race season. Their teammate Ryan Norman twice finished second in Vallelonga ahead of Lucas Peterson and Giano Taurino (TR3 Race). Luke Berkeley and Keawn Tandon (NTE Sport) were already guaranteed the Pro-Am title and therefore did not travel to Italy. Patrick Leddy and Blake McDonald (US RaceTronics) won the first race in that class and the second race was won by Shihan Chandrasoma and Nicholas Rieger (TPC Racing). Tyler Hoffman and Wesley Slim (PPM) won the Am class in the first race, but a second-place finish for teammates Glenn McGee and Anthony McIntosh was enough to secure the championship there. David Staab, who also competes for Precision Performance Motorsports, won the second race in the Am class. Two-time Lamborghini Cup champion Mark Wilgus (US RaceTronics) finished second in class at Vallelonga behind double winner Graham Doyle (Wayne Taylor Racing).

In Super Trofeo Asia, Chris van der Drift and Marco Giltrap once again dominated. After their double win at Vallelonga, they have won every race of the season except the second race at Bend Motorsport Park. Pro-Am champions Oscar Lee and Dan Wells (DW Evans GT) took second and first, while Jonathan Cecotto and Li Qiang (TRT Racing) took first and second in that class. Jackson and Tony Walls (Objective Racing) completed Pro-Am podiums in both races in Italy to finish second in the final standings. Aniwat Lommahadthai and Pasarit Promsombat (Star Performance byAbsolute) defeated John Kwon and Lee Changwoo (SQDA – GRIT Motorsport) to claim the Am title, while Supachai Weeraborwornpong (Siamgas Corse) won the Lamborghini Cup championship.

World finals

The World Finals brought together participants from the Asian, European and North American tournaments. Bondwell won the first World Final in the Pro category from pole position ahead of Leitch, Loris Cabero and Stefan Tribodini (CMR). A third place behind Federico Scionti, the fast Luca Segù (Lamborghini Roma by DL Racing), Ali and Soderstrom in World Final 2 was enough for Bonduel to take the world title in the Pro class. Alex Au and Schandorff won the Pro-Am world title thanks to a double win in their class. Colombini and Zonzini finished second in the Pro-Am class in World Final 1, but were not so lucky in World Final 2, and for Giacomo and Matteo Pollini (Imperiale Racing) it was the opposite. This opened the door for the Dutch duo Borman and Schonderwoord to occupy second place in the final standings of the Pro-Am Championship, with third and fourth places.

McGee and McIntosh took the Am class world title by winning and finishing third ahead of Anapoli and Randazzo who finished second and third. Piguet and Varotti won the second world final, but because the French only finished eighth in the first match, they had no chance of winning the world title. In the Lamborghini Cup, Doyle was held scoreless in the first World Final, but won the second World Final. Wielgus just won the first race, before bowing out the next day. With fifth and second places, Shota Abkhazava (ART Line) scored one more point than Jonathan Hirschberg (US RaceTronics) in the competition for the Lamborghini Cup world title.
