Godzilla vs Kong 2 is officially in production

Almost a year after the theatrical release of Godzilla vs. KongLooks like Legendary has already started the pre-production process for Godzilla vs. Kong 2, A self-titled sequel to the MonsterVerse franchise. The first reports of the development of the project appeared last year, but the studio neither confirmed nor denied its existence.

Now, in a recent press release from Screen Queensland, it was confirmed that Legendary is making progress with a sequel Godzilla vs. Kong, which will go into production in Australia later this year. “We are delighted to welcome the producers of Legendary Pictures back to Queensland, after filming Kong Skull Island and Godzilla vs. Kong in the state in 2016 and 2019, respectively. Our highly skilled local crew, diverse locations and top-notch facilities have been definite draw cards. For them to come back again.”

The upcoming fifth film in the blockbuster series will provide $79.2 million in economic support to Queensland, as well as create 505 jobs for local actors and crew and 750 additional jobs.

Additional details about the project remain classified, but initial reports last year suggested it might be the title son of Kong they will get. It is unclear if Adam Wingard will return as director or not. The project was again produced by Eric McLeod. MacLeod said:

After being postponed from its November 2020 release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Godzilla vs. Kong It was released in international theaters on March 24, 2021 and in the United States on March 31.
