Eurovision 2023 in the UK

The BBC is the broadcaster of the song festival and will work with Ukrainian channel UA: PBC to include elements from Ukraine in the show.

Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022. Kalush’s band got the most points for their song “Stefania”, but the immediate question whether the event could be organized in the country was on the spot, given the Russian invasion of the country.

The UK took second place in the event this year. Sam Ryder and his song “Space Man” didn’t get enough points from the jury and viewers to take first place.

After the victory in Turin in May, Ukrainian radio announced its intention to organize the 2023 Song Contest in her country. Even Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his hope that he would be able to receive the delegations of the next edition in the liberated Mariupol.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) previously announced that Ukraine would not organize the Eurovision Song Contest next year. In a statement, the European Broadcasting Union said extensive talks have been held with UA:PBC and that possibilities for organizing the song festival are being explored.

“With great regret, we have to inform you that under the current circumstances, the Ukrainian broadcaster is unable to provide the necessary security and operational capabilities for the Eurovision Song Contest,” the organization wrote.
