After the US PGA Tour, the DP World Tour will also penalize golfers who participated in the controversial LIV Golf Invitational Series. Golfers making the switch can count on a fine and suspension.
The organization of the DP World Tour, formerly known as the European Tour, imposes a fine on golfers who participate in the LIV Series in excess of 116 thousand euros. In addition, they will also not be allowed to participate in the Scottish Open and two sessions in the United States next month.
In shootouts, the DP World Tour follows the PGA Tour, the organizer of golf’s most important series of tournaments. By the American organization banned all members from participating in the tour, which is funded by billions of euros from Saudi Arabia.
“Every decision someone makes in life has consequences,” said Keith Bailey, DP World Tour Director. “This also applies to top sports, especially if someone is breaking the rules. Some of our members have done that and that’s why we made this decision.”
Dutch golfers Jost Lewiten, Will Besseling, Darius van Drel and Dan Hoeing have a playing card for the DP World Tour. None of the Dutch have moved to the LIV Series at the moment. Famous European golfers Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia did.
The first LIV Golf Championship was held in London two weeks ago. There was $25 million to be raised. The largest prize pool in the history of professional golf. The second championship of the controversial round begins on June 30 in Oregon, USA.
