Remove all Neil Young music from Spotify | abroad
Young, 76, will be podcasting by Joe Rogan, which can be heard exclusively via Spotify. Rogan is a well-known broadcaster and his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience is the most listened to podcast in the world with an estimated 11 million listeners per episode. He regularly posts misinformation about the coronavirus. In April last year he called on healthy young people not to be vaccinated, and he recently spoke with controversial virologist Robert Mallon.
Young expressed his criticism of the podcast in an open letter to his management and Spotify. Al-Kindi wrote in the letter, which has since been disconnected, according to US media, that the streaming service “helps spread potentially fatal information” through the broadcast of Rogan’s podcast. “They can choose between Rogan and Young, but not both,” the singer writes for Spotify.
A spokesperson for Spotify told The Washington Post that it provides “all the audio in the world” to its users. “This entails a great deal of responsibility,” explains the company’s spokesperson, and emphasized that the company balances “the safety of listeners with the freedom of its makers.”
We’ve removed over 20,000 Covid-19 related podcasts since the start of the pandemic. We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify but hope to welcome him again soon.”
