Tom Parker, a member of the popular Irish-British boy band The Wanted, has died at the age of 33. The band writes Instagram that Parker died “peacefully” in front of his family and bandmates.
In October 2020, the singer announced that he had a brain tumor that could not be removed and that it would eventually kill him. In November last year, Parker reported that the tumor “under control” used to be. Earlier this month, he was present several times at shows as part of his Most Wanted reunion tour.
Parker missed the start of that tour, because he was undergoing treatment at a private clinic in Spain. British media reported that his condition had deteriorated sharply in recent weeks.
Criticism of treatments in the UK
Last year, Parker emphasized that he did not want a diagnosis to define his life. he told BBC†
Furthermore, he said in a podcast last year that he Surprised It was about how his tumor (glioblastoma) was treated in the UK. It was believed that a “significant improvement” was needed. According to Parker, more methods of treatment should be made available. This includes more money for these treatments and also for research. He made the documentary for Channel 4 last year inside my headwhich was about his illness.
Parker was initially a cover member of boy band Take That, until he joined newly formed band The Wanted via a successful audition in 2009. The band immediately recorded number one in the UK in 2010 with all time low† A year later, the group once again topped the UK charts glad you came† This song also took a place in the Dutch top 40, just like Lightning (2011), she walks like Rihanna (2013) and show me love (2013).
One of the greatest wanted songs, glad you came:
