Official Samsung Galaxy A05s phone

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A05s and Galaxy A05 in Malaysia. It’s not clear when they will be released and what the hardware will cost, but they are definitely budget smartphones. The phones look quite similar, although there are differences.

Samsung smartphones have a large 6.7-inch screen, and the A05s has an advantage over its sibling. The display of this smartphone has a Full HD resolution with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The A05 should rely on a simple 60Hz HD display. This makes images appear less sharp and not as smooth.

We also see differences under the hood. The Samsung Galaxy A05s phone has a Snapdragon 680 processor; A fairly smooth chip that is often used in affordable smartphones. The A05 has a simple MediaTek Helio G85 processor. Both devices have a maximum of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Galaxy A05 and A05s also have a 5,000 mAh battery that can be charged at 25W. That’s as fast as the more expensive Galaxy A54 and Galaxy S23. The smartphones take photos with a 50-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The A05 also has a 2MP macro lens on the front Close-ups.

Four years of updates

Samsung promises to provide the Galaxy A05s with updates for four years. This is good for a budget phone, although we don’t know how many Android version upgrades will come to the device. Generally, Samsung’s cheapest smartphones get two Android OS upgrades.

Interestingly, the product page for the regular A05 says nothing about the update policy. Both phones run Android 13 out of the box, while Google will soon release Android 14. Another important difference is that the A05s has a fingerprint scanner on the side, but this is missing on the A05. They both have a headphone jack.

It is unclear whether the Samsung Galaxy A05 and A05s will also appear in the Netherlands, although this seems likely. The direct predecessor, the Galaxy A04s, is also available in several stores (online) here. The smartphone is currently priced at €131, making it one of the cheapest Samsung phones at the moment.
