(ABM FN-Dow Jones) The European Union and the United States have suspended for four months all import tariffs imposed on them in their trade dispute over subsidies to Airbus and Boeing. This was announced by the head of the European Commission Ursula van der Leyen on Friday.

Van der Leyen spoke about the “good news” for companies and sectors on both sides of the ocean and “the most positive signal for our economic cooperation in the years to come”.

The White House is also positive and indicates that they are looking for a solution to a long-standing controversy.

In response, Airbus said it “welcomes all necessary steps to create a fair sports sector” and supports the resolution of the US-EU trade dispute.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The suspension applies to $ 7.5 billion in imported European products such as wine, whiskey, cheese and olives, and $ 4 billion in US products such as EU aircraft imported from the United States.
