A shooting occurred at a university in central Prague on Thursday afternoon. Czech police reported that several people were killed and dozens were injured. Police at X location reported that the shooter had been eliminated.
It is not yet clear to the police the exact number of victims. The security services announced on Channel X that the victims included serious and minor injuries.
The area surrounding the college was cordoned off. The police called on local residents not to enter the area and to remain in their homes. The college is located on Jan Palach Square, in the historical center of the Czech capital. After the shooting, many people fled the square in panic.
According to the Czech newspaper Lightning Students and faculty received an email stating they should shelter in place in classrooms and barricade doors with furniture. Several gunshots were reportedly heard on the fourth floor of the building.
Some people had to reach safety by climbing out of a window and taking cover on the edge of the facade high above the street.
According to police, the shooter was neutralized by 4 p.m. The police then began evacuating the building.
