Scientists discovered that the same patterns appear in the brains of rodents as they appear in the brains of humans when they encounter certain objects. It has to do with patterns of neural activity in the hippocampus. This is the part of the brain responsible for spatial memory.
Research shows that mice can initiate these activity patterns voluntarily. They do this, for example, to “remember” remote locations.
This ability is essential for remembering past events or imagining future scenarios. Therefore, research suggests that mice have imaginations just like humans.
