Messi did not follow the example of Beckham and Henry and stayed in America – soccer international
Prominent players such as David Beckham and Thierry Henry have opted in the past to temporarily return to Europe as players in the US when Major League Soccer was at a standstill, but Lionel Messi will not be doing this. The Argentinian is under contract with Inter Miami and has barely played this year.
Messi made his return to Major League Soccer last weekend, but the match against FC Cincinnati turned out to be a disappointment. Inter Miami lost the home game and were eliminated from the battle for the play-offs for the national title. There are two matches left with Charlotte FC in October, then Inter Miami and the club season is over for Messi.
There are many clubs who think it’s a shame that a player like Messi is playing the last game of the season in October. Barcelona were hoping for a temporary return for the Argentine, and it was an open secret that Saudi Arabia were keen to add Messi to the competition, even if only for a few months.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano knows that Messi wants to fully focus on the rest with Inter Miami and Argentina. In November he will only play international matches with the world champions and will be involved in training matches with Inter Miami. Messi will not play in December, and preparation for the next season in MLS will begin in the new year.
