Justin Bieber’s face is partially paralyzed due to a rare disease

Justin Bieber revealed on Instagram that his face is partially paralyzed. He has now had to postpone a number of concerts from his world tour indefinitely.

The Canadian pop star suffers from Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. The syndrome is caused by infection with the same virus that also causes chickenpox and shingles. In Ramsay Hunt syndrome, the seventh cranial nerve becomes inflamed, which can cause partial facial paralysis and ear pain.

Three shows moved

“I wanted to update you,” the artist says in a video on Instagram. Earlier this week, he had to move three shows. “As you can probably tell from my face, I have a syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome.”

The infection caused by the virus prevents Bieber from blinking on one side. “And I can’t smile on that side of my face. My nose can’t move either.”

Bieber is taking it easy now

Bieber also notes that he is now unable to perform “It’s very dangerous as you can see. I hope it isn’t, but my body is telling me to take it easy. I hope you understand.” The singer says that he will take a break next time, but is confident that everything will be fine. “We don’t know how long it will take, but it will be fine.” Ramsay Hunt syndrome is not very common. In the Netherlands, 1 in 20,000 people are affected by it. The patient usually recovers.

Justin Bieber has been performing on his world tour since last month World Justice Tour. More than 125 shows on five continents are planned until next March. In January, Bieber arrived in the Netherlands and held three concerts at the Ziggo Dome. During his previous world tour, the singer exchanged a number of big performances in stadiums for smaller concert halls because not enough tickets were sold.
