After Khilami and Spa, BMW managed to take the win in the 8 Hours of Indianapolis. Dries Vandoor, Sheldon van der Linde and Phillip Ng drove a strong race with the Team WRT car to win. Last year’s winners Mercedes-AMG Craft-Bamboo Racing, followed by Mercedes-AMG Team Group M Racing, were far behind. John Haylen fell off the podium, but he was placed on the highest podium at the Fanatec GT World Challenge America.

However, winning a race for the #30 Team WRT BMW is no easy feat. A penalty dropped the car to fifth in the back half. But the much stronger Eng and Vantur made sure they were back in the sister car of Charles Wirts, Maxime Martin and Augusto Farfus. Although the latter were less fortunate, Triarci Racing dropped back to seventeenth after colliding with a Ferrari, losing twelve laps after repairs. From then on, the #30 controlled the race and beat the trio of Maximilian Götz, Raffaele Marciello and Jules Gounon by 53 seconds. They only had half the numbers on the second Mercedes of Maro Engel, Luca Stolz and Daniele Juncatella.

In fact, this last car’s third-place finish was a bit lucky, as the spot was actually destined for John Haylen, who co-drove with Madison Snow and Trent Hindman. The Wright Motorsports Porsche crashed with 10 minutes to go and was relegated to fourth. But the placing was enough for Gelenaar and co to record a third win in a row at the Fanatec GT World Challenge America. The RS1 Porsche of Eric Filgueras, Steven McAleer and Klaus Bachler rounded out the top five.
