The Suriname Powerlifting Federation (SPF) recently held its first test competitions, allowing the athletes to qualify for the two international sporting events in September and October of this year. These pilot competitions were the first official activities to be organized within the framework of the new weightlifting organization in Suriname.
A number of budding athletes already experienced in powerlifting were able to show their talents to a sophisticated audience at the Ring Sports Center on June 25. During the trial class, five athletes qualified for the South American Championships in weightlifting and benching in Brazil.
Athletes Omar Jones, Tsuen Amatridge, Lyndon Amersinghe, Randall Kariodemjo and Abigail Heng will represent Suriname from September 4-11, 2022 in Santa Caterina, Brazil. This is the first time in the history of Surinamese weightlifting that Surinamese athletes will participate in the South American Championships, endorsed by the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF).
Although SPF has already provided the necessary support and facilitation to athletes who will be traveling to Brazil, the organization is constantly looking for donors. Donors can contact SPF via the email address: [email protected]
