Euro 2028 | Euro 2028 to the UK and Ireland – Italy and Turkey host Euro 2032

The allocation of the two European Championships was not a big surprise. The only competitor for a tournament in the UK and Ireland was Turkey, but they decided to focus on the upcoming European Championship with Italy. Never before have the Turks had the honor of (participating) in organizing a major football tournament.

During Euro 2028, matches will be held at Wembley (London), Hampden Park (Glasgow), Aviva Stadium (Dublin) and Casement Park (Belfast). Anfield (a very small stadium) and Old Trafford remain noticeably empty.

The last time a European Championship or World Cup was held in England was during the previous European Championship, in 2020, when matches were spread across Europe.

Conflict with own rules

In order to fully regulate a country in the UK, we have to go back a little further. England previously organized the 1966 World Cup and the 1996 European Championship. In addition, England hosted the 2022 European Women’s Football Championship, which the Lionesses, led by Sarina Wegman, won.

The 2032 European Championship is not only the first for Turkey. Never before have two non-neighboring countries organized the European Championship. In fact, UEFA rules state that this is an obligation. Managers at Nyon still have nearly nine years to change their own regulations.
