Yuki Tsunoda has compared the final section of the Miami International Autodrome to the Formula E circuit. The Formula 1 Circus travels to Miami for the first Grand Prix of the year on US soil.
The circuit around Hard Rock Stadium is designed specifically for Formula 1. It reminds some drivers of the track in Saudi Arabia, but the AlphaTauri driver likens it to a Formula E track, where there will be a lot of tight, tight corners. The new design also provides drivers with a variety of challenging turns.
Formula E sector
“I drove the track on the simulator and the first two sectors were very fast with some corners of medium and high speed,” Tsunoda explains. The 21-year-old Japanese continued: “The third sector is what I call the ‘Formula E sector’ with a lot of very tight corners and I think overall it will be an interesting track to drive.” Despite the new cars, Tsunoda doesn’t expect many overtaking maneuvers. “I think it will be fun, although overtaking can be difficult, so we need to qualify well,” he continued.
big show
Tsunoda enjoys the entourage around the Grand Prix. “There’s always a lot going on around racing in America,” he explains. “They like to have a big show that relates to all of their major sports.” Japanese youth were able to prepare for the weekend in a relaxed way. “I had the opportunity to enjoy myself a little for what seems to be a busy weekend,” said the AlphaTauri driver. However, it’s clear where the focus is: “I think it’s going to be fun, but I’m just going to focus on my work.”
