Defending champion Alcaraz starts in Miami with a smooth win

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz started the Miami Masters with a smooth victory. The world number one, who is defending his title in Florida, needed just over an hour to defeat Argentine Facundo Panes: 6-0, 6-2. “A perfect start,” says Alcaraz, who already won the Indian Wells Masters last week and will go to the so-called Sunshine Double in Miami.

The 19-year-old Spaniard received a bye in the first round. He now meets Serbian Dusan Lajovic in the third round. “This track is faster than the track in Indian Wells, and the humidity is a bit higher. In short: it takes a while to get used to these conditions,” said Alcaraz, who ended his long winning streak in the Indian Wells final. Russian Daniel Medvedev.

German Alexander Zverev, ranked 15th in the world, was surprised in the second round by Japanese Taro Daniel: 6-0, 6-4.

Among the women, three of the world’s top 10 tennis players were eliminated from the tournament. Caroline Garcia of France (4th in the world ranking) lost to Romanian Sorana Cirstea (6-2, 6-3). World number 5 Anas Jaber of Tunisia was defeated by Russian qualifier Varvara Gravcheva (6-2, 6-2). Maria Sakkari defeated by Bianca Andreescu. The Greek No. 10 in the world bowed to the Canadian in three sets: 5-7, 6-3 and 6-4.

Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka did nothing wrong. The tennis star from Belarus defeated American Shelby Rogers 6-4, 6-3.
