This is how the Netherlands commemorates slavery’s past (and celebrates its end). internal

On Saturday, exactly 150 years ago, slavery in Suriname also practically ended. A year to commemorate the Dutch slavery past will also begin. A selection of how our country will reflect on the end of slavery this weekend.

On Bonaire, those interested can watch films and youth theatrical performances about slavery on Saturdays. Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Housing and Spatial Planning) presented on behalf of the Cabinet at the anniversary celebration on the island. His fellow Cabinet members are doing the same in other places where the memory of the Netherlands' use of slavery in former colonies is commemorated.
