Tsitsipas into the Cincinnati final after beating Medvedev
9.04 am: Stefanos Tsitsipas reached the Cincinnati Championships final. The fourth-placed Greek beat world number one Daniil Medvedev 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-3. In the final battle, he will meet Croatian Borna Coric, who ousted Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6-3 6-4.
Tsitsipas surprised the Russian with an offensive game. He came to the net no less than 36 times and made 27 points. The Greek survived a set point in the first set tiebreak and trailed 5-0 in the second set. In the third set, Medvedev left somewhat without a chance.
Couric has shown that he is improving after shoulder surgery. 22 winners hit against Nori. Earlier in the tournament, the Croatian was also responsible for eliminating Rafael Nadal and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Caroline Garcia and Petra Kvitova play the Women’s Championship final in Cincinnati. The French woman defeated Arina Sabalenka of Belarus (6-2, 4-6, 6-1). Kvitova defeated American Madison Keys, who won the tournament in 2019. The Czech won in three sets: 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-3.
Garcia is the first player to reach the Cincinnati Final from the playoffs. She could win the WTA Championships for the 10th time and she already won in Bad Homburg and Warsaw earlier this year. Kvitova already has 29 nicknames to her name. She twice won Wimbledon.
