The silver medalist at the last Summer Olympics swam in the World Cup Final for the first time in his life. He had a traditionally slow start from lane 3, but was already halfway through lane 3. However, he failed to track down the 22-year-old Italian.
“That was the limit,” Kamenga told the team afterwards. NOS† “In my first World Cup final, I am so happy.”
After Marcel Woda in 1998, Kamenga hoped to become the second Dutch swimmer to be crowned world long-track champion, but had to finish second in his first World Cup final in the 50-meter pool. However, he is the first Dutch man to win a medal since Peter van den Hoogenband in 2007.
Tucson to the final, de Ward not
Kira Toussaint reached the final in the 100m backstroke. For Maaike de Waard, the semi-final match was the final destination.
De Ward finished fifth in the first semi-final and then had to wait to see what happened to her compatriot in the semi-finals. Unfortunately for her, four swimmers, including Toussaint, couldn’t make up for her time, finishing ninth and failing to make the boat. Toussaint (59.16) finished third in her race and had the fourth-fastest time among all semi-finalists.
American Reagan Smith was the first to reach the final on Monday evening, with a time of 57.65.
