Primoz Roglic confirmed ahead of the Emilia Tour that he is leaving Dutch team Jumbo-Visma. Earlier this week, it was rumored that the Slovenian racer, who still has an ongoing contract, is in his final season in Dutch service.
“I can confirm that I will be leaving the team,” this year’s Giro winner was clear. “We will let you know the details after the races I still complete this season.” Roglic usually ends his season next Saturday in the Lombardy Tour.
Roglic joined LottoNL-Jumbo in 2016, which continues as Jumbo-Visma as of 2019. The Slovenian, who started his career as a ski jumper, has won four Grand Tours. This year he took the overall win in the Giro, and won the Vuelta three times in a row between 2019 and 2021. He was unable to achieve overall victory in the Tour de France. In 2020, compatriot Tadej Pogacar knocked him out of the yellow jersey on the penultimate day on the time trial climb to La Planche des Belles filles.
In recent days, Roglic’s name has been mentioned by teams such as Movistar, Ineos Grenadiers and Lidl-Trek. At Jumbo-Visma there is uncertainty about what the team will look like next season. The Dutch are in merger talks with Soudal Quick-Step, and US e-commerce company Amazon is also said to be interested in participating.
