Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G-soc made with Samsung’s 5nm process – computer – news
Qualcomm introduces its successor, the Snapdragon 765G. Among other things, the new Snapdragon 780G 5G gets a new built-in 5G modem, with Qualcomm stopping announcing support for mmWave-5G. The chip was made on the Samsung 5nm node.
to Snapdragon 780G It features a Kryo 670 CPU with a Cortex-A78 core at 2.4 GHz, three A78 cores at 2.2 GHz and four more power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 1.9 GHz. According to Qualcomm, the CPU performs up to 40 percent better than its predecessor. The chip also houses the Adreno 642 GPU, which, according to Qualcomm, is up to 50 percent faster than its predecessor the GPU.
The new soc gets a built-in X53 modem with 5G support. However, it is remarkable that Qualcomm did not mention mmWave-5G support. the previous Snapdragon 765G-soc With the X52 modem it supports. So it appears that the Snapdragon 780G only offers 5G below 6GHz, with Dualsim-5G support as well. Qualcomm also mentions support for Wi-Fi 6 and 6E with the company’s own FastConnect 6900 system. Bluetooth 5.2 is also supported.
Qualcomm claims Plus, the new soc performs better at AI workloads. The company is equipping the chip with a sixth-generation Qualcomm AI engine with Hexagon 770 processor. The chip maker states that the chip delivers up to 12 TOPS of AI computing power, compared to the 5.5 TOPS with the Snapdragon 765G.
Snapdragon 780G is also getting a new Spectra 570– Image signal processor. The Snapdragon chip has three ISPs, just like the Snapdragon 888. This allows simultaneous image capture with three camera sensors. chip Supports Three 25-megapixel cameras, dual-camera setup with a 64-megapixel sensor and 20-megapixel sensor, or a single-camera 84-megapixel camera.
The new soc is made on Samsung’s 5nm process. The current Snapdragon 765 chips are built at the 7nm node of that company. Qualcomm wrote that the first smartphones with the Snapdragon 780G chip will hit the market in the second quarter of this year. No concrete smartphones have been announced with this soc.
