Gijs Brouwer will face Lorenzo Musseti in the second round of the US Open tonight. The 26th-ranked Italian newcomer will meet on track 10.

Brewer and Musseti play the third game of the day, after a mixed doubles match and a duel from the women’s championship. The first games start at 5:00 PM Dutch time.

The 26-year-old Brouwer, who is primarily active on the Challenge circuit, is the 181st in the world. He’s already won four straight games in New York. Brouwer started the year as world number 367.

Serena and Venus Williams play their first-round match in the women’s doubles prime time, 1:00 a.m. Dutch time (7:00 p.m. U.S. time), at Arthur Ashe Stadium. They will compete with Czechs Linda Noskova and Lucy Hradika. In the second evening match on the main track, Rafael Nadal will meet Italian Fabio Fognini. Nadal has yet to lose at the Grand Slam level this year.

John Isner

John Isner is no longer in business. The 37-year-old American, ranked 48th in the world, will face Norway’s Holger Ron in the second round but withdrew with a fracture. During my match on Tuesday, I unfortunately suffered a broken left wrist. Needless to say, I am retired. See you in 2023,” Eisner wrote on social media.

Isner, who beat Argentine Federico Delbonis in three sets in the opening round, has reached the quarter-finals twice in New York: in 2011 and 2018. In mid-September, the Netherlands will meet the United States in the Davis Cup finals, but Isner did. He was not chosen by Captain Mardi Fish.

doubles

Wesley Kohlhoff started well at the US Open. The best doubles player in the Netherlands, along with his British partner Neil Skopsky, was very strong for Americans Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (5). The 33-year-old is a title contender at the US Open, having reached the final in 2020. He and Skopski are the most successful duo of 2022. Kolhoff and Skopski have already won six titles this season.

Arantexa Ross did not succeed with Spain’s Nuria Barezas Diaz in the face of American players Katie McNally and Taylor Townsend: 3-6, 4-6. Rosalie van der Hoek lost alongside Belgian Alison van Uytvanck with the same characters from the American duo Reese Brantmeier / Clairvy Ngonoy.
