Low unemployment rate in OECD countries – Nieuws.nl

Unemployment in OECD member countries has continued to fall after falling below pre-coronavirus levels earlier this year. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development said in a monthly report that unemployment fell to 5 percent in April. As a result, the percentage was lower for the 12th consecutive month. Women, in particular, were more likely to find work.

In February, the unemployment rate had already fallen below the pre-crisis level of 5.3 percent. Currently, there are 34 million people in OECD countries unemployed. This is 500,000 less than it was before the crisis. The OECD is made up of 38 countries, including many European countries and countries such as the United States, Mexico, Canada, Chile, South Korea, and Australia.

In the eurozone, unemployment remained stable at 6.8%. It was already the third consecutive month that the region’s unemployment rate remained virtually unchanged.

The OECD stresses that the unemployment rate does not exactly reflect the number of people looking for work. This is because some people are not actively looking for a job or are not available for it.
