Body of drowned gold prospector recovered; family outraged
The young man who disappeared deep inside a flooded gold well in Suriname last Friday is 19-year-old gold miner Miguelo Delano Eva.
This morning at around 7:30 a.m., Surinamese police received a report that a body had been found. The remains were recovered shortly after.
The incident occurred on Friday, July 5, during the work of the ZiJin team. According to police, the young man tried to escape arrest during the unit’s operation and fell from a 20-meter-high seat.
He then allegedly got up and continued his journey before falling into a well filled with water. According to police, Eva disappeared into the depths and never reappeared.
Eva’s relatives have a different take and are furious. The family suspects that police stoned one of their family members and then threw him into a well in the gold field, causing him to drown.
