Live Blog – Kamala Harris May Be Official Presidential Candidate As of Aug. 1, Donald Trump and Joe Biden Address Nation
Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a campaign rally in Charlotte, North Carolina today. It will be Trump’s first rally since President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the race last Sunday.
The rally will be held at Bojangles Coliseum, a large indoor arena with approximately 8,600 seats. The starting signal will be given at 6 pm local time in our country. Nothing is known about security plans. Traffic will be blocked on major roads between the airport and Bojangles Coliseum, police said.
North Carolina is a so-called ‘swing state’, a battleground state that traditionally votes Republican or Democratic. Hence it is of extra importance for election candidates to campaign there.
In 2020, North Carolina went to Donald Trump, but by one of the narrowest margins of victory of the entire election. Come November, North Carolina will once again become an important battleground state.
The average poll before Biden’s departure had Trump leading by 6 percentage points. It’s unclear how this will play out with Kamala Harris likely to become the Democratic nominee.
Harris has already campaigned in North Carolina 7 times this year, including twice in the last 2 weeks with Gov. Roy Cooper. Cooper is said to be on the list of Democratic vice presidential candidates.
