US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen held “candid and productive” discussions with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng on US-China economic relations. This came in a statement by the Ministry of Finance. Yellen spoke with She in San Francisco in recent days before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in that city.

According to the ministry, it was agreed, among other things, to improve communication between the two countries in order to work on finding solutions to mutual differences. Yellen also told the Deputy Prime Minister that the United States does not want to “decouple” from China in the economic sphere. Tensions between the two economic superpowers have been rising recently, partly due to restrictions imposed by the United States on the export of high-quality chip technology to China and around Taiwan, which Beijing considers a rebellious province.

According to the statement, Yellen also stressed that the United States seeks to establish a healthy economic relationship with China that benefits both countries. She wants to visit China next year.

Next Wednesday, President Joe Biden will meet his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting.
