Van der Waals sees no reason to review the nitrogen policy

The Minister for Nature and Nitrogen answered Nitrogen’s parliamentary questions about the UvA report. the Answers It’s astonishing, especially because according to research by NOS, the maximum load policy barely produces any increase in nitrogen.

First of all: What is peak tax policy again? The Minister of Nature and Nitrogen wants to significantly reduce nitrogen emissions. To that end, it wants to make, relocate or close more than 3,000 agricultural and industrial businesses more sustainable. In Gelderland alone, this concerns 1,800 farms. But the maximum loading policy has not started yet. So far, the takeover scheme has resulted in only 492 orders, including just 300 “peak cranes”, according to figures from the Dutch Enterprise Agency (RVO).

Previous reference September 12 The first hit of nitrogen comes: it’s… Report on ultraviolet rays. What’s inside it?

  • 10% of nitrogen emissions are deposited within 100 meters (on farm)
  • 90% of nitrogen emissions end up in the upper air and are deposited somewhere far outside.

Why are these numbers important? Well, after 500 metres, the nitrogen deposition could no longer be related to the stable. This means: Buying peak loaders may not make any difference in nature.

And October 5. from U.S Publish Strike Two: Purchasing peak lifters results in almost no nitrogen gain. Current plans (cost: €24.3 billion) only result in a 2.5 percent nitrogen reduction in Dutch nature reserves.

the answers

Which brings us to the answers. Scientifically, the maximum loading policy is questionable. But the minister will not change the current maximum loading policy. In fact, she regards the important UvA report as a “confirmation of existing knowledge”.

For question 3 We do not receive an answer as to whether further investigation of dry deposition is possible. The UvA method is also questioned, as UvA uses multiple measurement methods (while MinisterNenS relies on AERIUS, which has an error rate of 50-100%).

Question 5 It shows exactly how stable the nitrogen policy is. A nitrogen distance limit of 25 km is chosen, while it is almost impossible to return nitrogen from a distance of 0.5 km to the stable. This is fifty times (!) as strict as science shows. Where do we know this?

Oh yes! It is quite similar to the nitrogen threshold value when a project in the Netherlands requires a natural permit. In Germany this only starts from 300g/ha/yes and in the Netherlands from 0.07g/ha/yes! More than four thousand times tougher than our neighbors!

No discussion before the election holiday
That’s why Caroline has asked to schedule a discussion on nitrogen next week. To change this maximum load policy as soon as possible. Citizens want to live somewhere, farmers want to farm, and science makes mincemeat of this nitrogen policy.

The request for discussion in plenary session was approved, but not before the election holiday. An attempt this morning to hold a debate in the LNV committee, before the election holiday starting on October 27, was blocked by the VVD and D66, among others.

This means that the debate does not take place until after the elections. Unfortunately, each disadvantage has its advantages: the composition of the House of Representatives may be completely different. There’s another reason to vote for the BBB on November 22.
