Ministers want a better national approach
It is still not clear whether teacher training will lead to an increased influx of new teachers. The report shows that there is an upward trend in the number of people signing up for PABO. At the same time, the question is whether this will continue. That will become clear early next year.
Ministers Denis Wiersma (primary and secondary education) and Robert Dijkraff (education, culture and science) wrote in their letter to Parliament: “All these figures show us one thing: the urgency to address the shortage remains as high as ever.”
So, behind the scenes, we’re working hard to find solutions to the shortages. Ministers want to focus more on the national approach because, in their view, the work is still too fragmented. At the beginning of 2023, the concerned parties will start working on crystallizing this national approach.
