Muiden – KC Muiderkring students in Muiden completed the lesson program “Safe on the road!” Stay out of the blind spot to identify danger zones surrounding the truck. The program is provided by Transport and Logistiek Nederland (TLN) and Veilig Verkeer Nederland (VVN) and aims to make children aware of the dangers of large vehicles.
Trainer and truck driver Corinna Hammer from TLN gave the kids helpful tips. “Stay to the right and always try to stay behind large vehicles,” she told the students. “This is necessary because not everything behind the wheel can be seen from the cabin. Therefore, keep a distance of at least three meters from the truck.
Through training, TLN and VVN want to make children aware of the dangers of blind spot. Children can also sit in the cabin by themselves to experience the limited field of vision. Mirrors and cameras reduce blind spots, but they don't completely solve the problem. This is why information is vitally important, especially for young road users. Therefore, Coach Hammer gave the children advice on where they could clearly see the truck driver and how they could best handle large vehicles in traffic.
