Theater group De Verleiders has rescheduled its upcoming Tour de Banque show after 10 years due to developments in the financial sector. The show was supposed to look back at the performance of the same name 10 years ago about the working methods of banks, but the topic suddenly became the headlines again this weekend due to the collapse of America’s Silicon Valley Bank.

“We couldn’t have predicted that we would be in the middle of current events when we played this show,” says writer and actor George Van Houts. “If it’s not clear yet: something really needs to change. That change comes in the form of central bank digital currency (CBDC), and we take a critical look at this development in our new presentation.”

In the 2014/2015 theater season, De Verleiders performed Tor de Banque, about the world of money and its management. The event was attended by 110,000 people and led to a citizens’ initiative with Stichting ans Geld, after which then-Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem commissioned the Science Council for Government Policy (WRR) to write a report on the matter.
