The first weekend in October is traditionally Science Weekend. Then many universities and research institutes open their doors. The full program will be available from September 27 Weekendvandewetenschap.nl. Below you will find a selection of astronomy activities.
Amsterdam – Saturday, October 7 – UV
The University of Amsterdam is holding an open house in the Science Park. For example, come and build a pulsar in the central hall, learn to identify different types of galaxies and make your own, or come to the NOVA mobile planetarium. Of course there are also guided tours of the star domes. You don’t have to register for the day, there are many other things you can do and entry is free of course. Exlo/Boynen – Sunday, October 8 – Astron
ASTRON will hold its open day on October 8. This year is Lover’s Day! This year, the open day will not be held at Dwingeloo, but at the LOFAR superterp, near Exloo. Nature and astronomy excursions and lectures are offered, and kids (ages 4) and adults can experience gravity, black holes and radio waves. There is also a mobile planetarium. More information
Leiden – Saturday, October 7 – Sron
SRON opens the doors of the building at Niels Borhweg 4 in the Bioscience Park. There’s also a mobile planetarium from NOVA! More information.
Leiden – Sunday, October 8 – Leiden University
Leiden University presents an intensive program to a wide audience on Sunday 8 October. NOVA’s Mobile Planetarium offers planetarium shows throughout the day in the Gorlaeus Building. More information.
Nordvik – Saturday, October 7 – ESA – for people with disabilities
On Saturday 7 October, the ESA will hold a special open day for people with disabilities. More information and registration.

This year, the annual ESA Open Day in the Netherlands will take place on Sunday 8 October at the European Space Center’s ESTEC Technical Center in Noordwijk. More information and registration (out of stock).
