The company doesn’t get me as excited anymore as it did 10-20 years ago, but it’s still an above-average quality developer in a number of areas. Their products became more and more money thirsty, some decisions about Diablo 3, Overwatch and especially Diablo Immortal were very questionable, and working for this company was often a nightmare.
But Diablo 4 can still be a hit as an ARPG. It looks good, the right lessons from D1, 2 and 3 seem to be learned, and it seems like it’s less repetitive than D1-3, and even more extensive choices for your character. The game only gets micro-transactions that have no effect on your character’s progress or strength. I’d rather see zero microtransactions at all, but at least that makes more sense than the Immortal Diablo.
I don’t buy Blizzard products that are going completely wrong, nor am I happy to support this company with a purchase in the first place. But boycotting it in its entirety is the other extreme. Then we wouldn’t have to buy anything from, say, CD Project Red and a lot of other teams that make a huge difference as well. Diablo 4 seems to handle things relatively well, so I might get the game up to speed sooner or later, if the reviews and fans are positive.
