US gymnastics star Simone Biles has been crowned all-around national champion for the eighth time. I made a record with this.
look. Biles is proud of her performance: “I proved to myself that I can still compete”
Ten years after her first all-around title, she was able to call herself US champion for the eighth time. It thus bettered the record of seven titles set by Alfred Jochim in 1933.
Earlier this month, Biles returned to competition after a two-year hiatus. During the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, she withdrew from the majority of competitions due to her mental health struggles. Biles then explained that she was suffering from “sprains,” a phenomenon in which gymnasts lose coordination during an exercise.
It now remains to be seen whether Biles, the owner of four Olympic titles and nineteen world titles, will participate in the world championships in Antwerp next month. There is also a question mark behind her participation in next year’s Games in Paris.
