Monkeypox outbreak almost over, stop stinging | interior
The current outbreak of monkeypox is nearing an end, says the RIVM Institute of Health. According to the organization, the “monkeypox” vaccination campaign will end “soon”. At-risk groups will be invited to take a shot through the end of this month.
“The number of new infections was very low a few weeks ago, which means that the campaign can be halted. However, the disease is still rebounding and there are still infections,” warns the institute, which thus calls for vigilance.
After its peak in the summer, the number of infections is now down to a few per week. “For example, only nine people have been diagnosed with the virus in the past two weeks. Due to the low number of new infections, vaccination is no longer needed,” the health institute said.
RIVM believes that “altered behavior” and natural immunity have also led to a decrease in the number of new infections. The institute is not yet able to determine the extent of the effect of vaccinations.
In November, it will be considered whether vaccinations or other measures are necessary in the future.
