Lionel Messi is looking forward to presenting it on Sunday at his new club, Inter Miami. “I support the decision I made,” the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player told Argentine reporters. “The American League has a different reputation than the best leagues in Europe. But this will not change my commitment and my behaviour. I will try to reach my best level.”
Inter Miami wants to officially introduce Messi on Sunday. The 36-year-old Argentine world champion arrived in Florida on Tuesday with his family. About two dozen fans were waiting outside the stadium for the arrival of Messi, who is expected to sign a two-and-a-half-year, $60 million-a-year contract (converted to €54.5 million) in Major League Soccer (MLS).
Messi, who comes from Paris Saint-Germain, will play his first match on July 21 against Mexican club Cruz Azul. This is a match in the context of the new League Cup, a tournament between clubs from Major League Soccer and the Mexican League. Inter Miami currently occupies the fifteenth and last place in the Eastern Conference of the American League Association.
