“I've had my hair short for a long time and now here we are,” Linda wrote alongside a photo of herself with her long hair. “For the first time I dare to see for myself that time has actually been so long again.” Linda lost her hair due to chemotherapy. “It's so strange what being forced to go bald did to me… Deep down, I felt like my hair would be short forever.”
Linda wasn't necessarily negative about her short haircut. I know it looked very nice, but of course it wasn't my choice. If I ever cut it again, it will be (I hope) because I want to. And then I think it's completely different.
Linda found it difficult to understand that her illness was also having an impact on her appearance. “For everyone who is pre-chemo: It's really bad that you also have to deal with this. You already have a lot to deal with and then you also lose part of your appearance. It's of course not your biggest problem, but it's something to add to your already full plate.”
Now that everything is much better for Linda, she notices how flexible her body is. “Once it comes back, you really appreciate every hair that grows back. You become your body's biggest supporter through something like this. And there's something beautiful about that too. Just think about that.”
Linda wrote a book about her life after being diagnosed with breast cancer. You can learn more about this in the video below.
