Jaylen Brown has become the most expensive player in NBA history after signing a new contract with the Boston Celtics. The 26-year-old American broke the scoring record of Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic.
Last year, Serbian Jokic signed a massive contract worth around €240 million with the Denver Nuggets, but Brown is well beyond that now. He will receive 275 million euros over the next five years with the Boston Celtics. The American was eligible for the so-called Supermax deala contract that can only be awarded in the NBA to players who have achieved certain achievements.
Contracts in the NBA can be confusing because of the way the salary cap works. For example, better and more popular players like Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant didn’t come close to the Browns’ blockbuster deal.
Top athletes are receiving increasingly huge salaries. Even footballer Kylian Mbappé might do so 700 million euros You can earn annually in Saudi Arabia.
However, they can’t complain either. Curry signed a five-year contract worth 180 million euros in 2017, James signed a two-year contract worth 100 million euros in 2022, and Durant signed a four-year contract worth 175 million euros in 2021.
Brown’s agent, Jason Glushon, said he and the player met with Celtics management on Sunday to finalize the contract, which will keep the 26-year-old with the team through 2029. Brown made his debut during the 2016-17 season, making his first appearance with the team. . Thanks in part to the player, the Celtics have reached the playoffs seven straight years. So now he is being rewarded for it.
