Now that Kamala Harris has been put forward as the Democratic presidential nominee for nearly two weeks, it’s clear that she’s more popular than President Joe Biden. US correspondent John Postma says he is even ‘neck and neck’ in polls with Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Democrats believe in profit
The situation was much worse under the previous presidential candidate, Joe Biden – the reporter notes. “Under Biden, those states lost quite a bit.” How different things are now. “You’re seeing a lot of confidence among Democrats right now that they can still win those states and still have a chance to win anyway.” It was very different three weeks ago.’
Postma insists Trump still leads in ‘most polls and models’. ‘Harris hasn’t driven him out completely, but it’s another battle, a campaign. These are really elections that could go either way.’
Trump lashes out
Postma observes that Trump has ‘changed his plan of attack’ as Harris’s popularity rises. ‘He wants to go back to work and does so with personal attacks.’ Postma addresses Trump’s comments about his rival’s appearance, among other things. For example, during an interview with black journalists, Harris said that he ‘became black’ out of electoral interest. ‘She turned black. She was Indian all along and suddenly she changed and she was black. Harris has a Jamaican father and an Indian mother.
