with videosFimke Ball set a world record in the 300-meter hurdles, a distance rarely run. The 22-year-old Dutchman was the best at the World Championships in Continental Athletics Gold in Ostrava, Czech Republic. Paul accelerated to 36.86 seconds, about 1.5 seconds short of the old record time.
The world record for this unmarketable distance was 38.16. Paul posted her best time of 38.55 in the 300-meter hurdles. The Netherlands, who took bronze in the usual 400-meter hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics last year, went faster in Ostrava to be surprised. Her jaw dropped as she looked at the scoreboard. Then Paul poses next to the board with her time of 36.86 and the text “New Book” (new world record).
Watch Fimc Paul’s reaction after the race below:
crazy surprise
“This was a crazy surprise,” Paul said. I wish I could run here in 37 seconds. I hit two little obstacles in the way and said to myself: Come on, Vimky, the last few meters! When I saw the time, I knew why I felt so much lactic acid in my legs.”
Paul will compete in the 400m hurdles at the FBK Games in Hengelo on Monday.
