Fimke Ball breaks the world record in the 300m hurdles: ‘This was a crazy surprise’ | other sports

with videosFimke Ball set a world record in the 300-meter hurdles, a distance rarely run. The 22-year-old Dutchman was the best at the World Championships in Continental Athletics Gold in Ostrava, Czech Republic. Paul accelerated to 36.86 seconds, about 1.5 seconds short of the old record time.

The world record for this unmarketable distance was 38.16. Paul posted her best time of 38.55 in the 300-meter hurdles. The Netherlands, who took bronze in the usual 400-meter hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics last year, went faster in Ostrava to be surprised. Her jaw dropped as she looked at the scoreboard. Then Paul poses next to the board with her time of 36.86 and the text “New Book” (new world record).

“This was a crazy surprise,” Paul said. I wish I could run here in 37 seconds. I hit two little obstacles in the way and said to myself: Come on, Vimky, the last few meters! When I saw the time, I knew why I felt so much lactic acid in my legs.”

Paul will compete in the 400m hurdles at the FBK Games in Hengelo on Monday.

Lake Claver put together her best in the 400 metres. The 23-year-old Claver finished fourth with a time of 50.90 seconds at the World Athletics Continental Athletics Gold Round in Ostrava, Czech Republic. In doing so, the North Holland contestant fell 0.08sec off her overall level, and she also overachieved the World Cup limit in Eugene (51.36).

Claver set her previous personal best in Rome two years ago, when she won the 400m Diamond League with a time of 50.98m. She ran her first 400m outdoors this year in Ostrava. Claver got off to a fast start as usual and was in the lead on exiting the last corner, but saw Polish athletes and a Jamaican pass. Poland’s Natalia Katzmarek won with a time of 50.16.

Claver won the silver medal in the 4x400m at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade in March with the Dutch relay team. She finished sixth in the 400-meter individual race.

Limarvin Bonifacia finished second in the 400m in Ostrava with a time of 45.55, much faster than it was a week ago at the start of the season in the Diamond League in Birmingham (46.37). Alexandre Ogando of the Dominican Republic won the Czech Republic with a time of 45.37 seconds. Bonevacia is the Dutch record holder in this distance with 44.48. The World Cup limit is 44.90.
