Colorado Rapids could bring basset back to the U.S. for the winter

Cole Bassett is mainly on the bench at Fortuna Sittard. The Feyenoord mercenary cannot play minutes with the current number 10 in the Eredivisie. Technical manager Sjord Ars remains confident in the qualities of the 21-year-old attacking midfielder.

“So far, it’s not out yet,” Ars begins on the #DoneDeal podcast From football. “Bassett has a true American game mentality. Ultimately, he’s going to be valuable to us. If he doesn’t play x number of games, we have an option in the contract for the Colorado Rapids to bring him back.”

Ars can’t assess whether the American club will actually bring Bassett back. “It’s very difficult for me to judge. We won’t get that number of games again. Only if he starts playing with us in the coming weeks. We have a very different discussion than him sitting on the bench in the coming games in the winter and having a bit more value.”

Bassett was loaned to Fortuna Sittard last summer. A construction that he was hired out at first seemed impossible due to the new FIFA rules. Feyenoord, Colorado Rapids and Fortuna Sittard then worked out a plan which allowed Bassett to play for Sittard. Feyenoord retain the option to buy and could raise it in the 2023 transfer summer.
