Chelsea hears ‘no’ from Nagelsmann, Kompany and Pochettino are now their biggest rivals | sports
Chelsea reportedly received no response from Julian Nagelsmann. The club from London are looking for a replacement for the sacked Graham Potter, but the 35-year-old Nagelsmann is said to have turned down the job at Stamford Bridge after several talks.
Chelsea are in a very disappointing 11th place in the Premier League after a turbulent first year under new American owner Todd Powell, who succeeded Russian Roman Abramovich after twenty moderately successful years. Chelsea have spent no less than €612m on new players this season, but it has never paid off. Under caretaker coach Frank Lampard, the first four matches were also lost, which meant that European football for next season was now out of sight and Real Madrid were once again very strong in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Nagelsmann was fired from Bayern Munich last month due to disappointing results. The German then spoke to Chelsea, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is writing on behalf of Watchman that the plug has now been pulled from the negotiations by Nagelsmann. No agreement was reached on several points.
51-year-old Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino (without a club after resigning from Paris Saint-Germain last year) and 37-year-old Belgian Vincent Kompany (recent champion with Burnley) will now be the main candidates to take over from the 2023/20 season .. 24 to be At the top of the current number 11 in the Premier League. Sacked as Chelsea manager at the start of 2021 and replaced by Thomas Tuchel, Lampard does not appear to be a serious contender for a permanent second appointment at the club where he shone for years as a midfielder.
Kompany dazzles at Burnley
Kompany began his coaching career as coach of Anderlecht, but left for Burnley in the summer of 2022. There he led the club from the Championship directly to promotion to the Premier League. And with victory over Queens Park Rangers this weekend, Burnley also secured the final title in England’s second tier.
