TENNIS – Mabel’s Ariane Hartono failed to reach the third round of the US Open qualifying tournament. In her match against 21-year-old Frenchwoman Clara Borrell, the score was 2-1 .
The 26-year-old Hartono is currently number 165 in the world. Her French opponent once reached 74th place in the world rankings, but now it is 132nd.
Hartono immediately got off to a good start and immediately broke the Frenchman’s serve, leading 2-0 in the first set. Then she went on to outsmart her opponent and went on to win 6-4.
But in the second set Borrell was not surprised again and in turn broke Hartono on the spot. The French ran 3-0. Hartono was able to return something for her own favors, but this was not enough. Thus Borrell took out the decisive third set 6-3.
In that group the battle lasted for a long time. The French even broke Hartono at 4-3 and rushed to 5-3. Then Drentse made the score 5-4. But Burel decided the game on her own service.
Last October, both women had already faced each other in the semi-finals of the tournament in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. Then Hartono lost 2-0.
In the first round of the US Open qualifiers, Hartono easily beat American Danielle Lau on Tuesday. The score was 2-0 and Hartono did not reveal a single match. But to get to the main draw in New York, she had to win three games in a row.
The US Open is the last major tournament of the season. In her first year at the top level, Hartono has so far only qualified for the main tournament of the Australian Open.
