The six different distances make the event suitable for all levels of walking. 10 km walking trails start from Rembrandtplein in the heart of the city. A few kilometers away, near Westerpark and near Sloterdijk station, participants of the 14 km Amsterdam Experience start. The Olympic Stadium is the starting point for hikers walking distances of 17, 20, 26 and 33 kilometres. The finish line will be drawn at Stadionplein for all participants.
International walking company
With 12,000 participants, the Amsterdam City Walk is one of the largest walking events organized by the sports organization Le Champion. In Amsterdam, the 10km is the most popular distance with over 3,100 walkers taking part, followed by nearly 3,000 participants in the 17km. In addition to the Dutch participants, there are walkers from 25 other countries at the start. Hikers come from Belgium, England and Norway, as well as participants from Australia, Brazil and the United States, to experience the atmosphere of Amsterdam.
The international field of participants is always relatively large at the Amsterdam City Walk because many participants of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon, scheduled for Sunday 15 October, want to discover the city on a leisurely walk on Saturday.
Mokum stimulates all the senses
Amsterdam is a city you can experience in many ways. By looking, listening and tasting. It all comes together during the Amsterdam City Walk: The Real Amsterdam Experience. Along the way, the organization provides entertainment in the form of friendly Amsterdam choirs and folk singers, and at aid stations participants are given typical dishes from the capital. The routes take walkers past Amsterdam’s world-famous icons and hidden gems that color the city.
Live music at the end party
After walkers complete their walk through the city and receive a beautiful medal, they are welcomed to a fun finishing party. Artists here perform Amsterdam sing-alongs and party songs, so you can get your feet off the ground.
The closing ceremony will also focus on Stadsherstel Amsterdam, a charity affiliated with Amsterdam City Walk. This organization rescues monuments and buildings in Amsterdam by restoring them and giving them a new purpose. Upon registration, participants can make a voluntary donation that will benefit the conservation of the Molen de Bloem in the Haarlemmerweg, a project of Stadsherstel Amsterdam. The check will be presented on Saturday afternoon during the ceremonial conclusion of Walk Day.
