A mother bear was shot dead in Italy by a resident, and her cubs were left alone

The animal regularly roamed the area around the Abruzzo National Park with its two cubs. The locals, including families with young children, would regularly watch when the bear family would come again. You can see what it looked like in this video:

The resident who shot the animal claims that a mother bear came to his property, making him feel insecure. So he shot the bear with a shotgun.

The cubs are in danger

The brown bear is a protected species in Italy, and therefore hunting of the animal is prohibited. Residents and politicians in the area are concerned about the health of the cubs, as they must continue without a mother.

“We are committed to protecting cubs and doing everything we can to ensure that they continue to live in freedom,” said Climate Minister Gilberto Picetto.

The head of the Italian branch of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) also responded to the bear’s shooting. “It is an unjust crime against nature,” said Luciano Di Tizio. According to him, the cubs are in great danger because they cannot take care of themselves yet.

In all, about 60 bears roam the Abruzzo National Park, where the female bear also resides with her cubs.
