A thirty-year-old man was rescued in Rome yesterday from a partially collapsed self-drilled tunnel. He may be part of a gang that wanted to rob a bank, Italian news agency reports forget.
The man got stuck under Via Innocenzo XI yesterday. Rescuers dug a second hole and were able to pull the trapped man out of the rubble about eight hours later. Then he was taken to the hospital. He will be fired today but will remain under police custody. He will be questioned in the coming days.
Three other suspects
Three other men were also arrested near the crater. According to ANSA, “some” of them have criminal records related to theft. All suspects hold Italian citizenship.
They may have belonged to a gang that tried to reach one of the two banks near the street through an empty store. The group is suspected of damaging the road surface and acting recklessly, according to the radio opinion. It should become clear in the coming days whether more fees will be added.
