38-year-old American leads Team USA in Bethpage block • Golf.nl
The 38-year-old American has played the Ryder Cup twice before and lost twice. Last year’s Ryder Cup in Rome passed him by. Captain Zach Johnson had to juggle Bradley, who received much attention in the second season of the Netflix documentary Full Swing.
Captains usually prepare for the job by fulfilling a role as vice-captain, but that is no longer the case. The relatively young Bradley is still active on the PGA Tour and, ranked 19th in the world, is a ‘ready’ player. A clear trend gap, America – after the defeat in Rome – seems ready to take a completely different course.
‘Honor’
“I am incredibly honored to accept this opportunity to captain Team USA for the 2025 Ryder Cup,” said Bradley. “As we make this trip to the Bethpage block, I want to thank the PGA of America Ryder Cup Committee and other tournaments in our sport, and I look forward to starting preparations for 2025 with this great history and passionate crowd in mind.
He debuted in 2012. He won three matches and lost one match. Team USA had a 10-6 lead in singles and surprisingly lost. In 2014, Bradley tied with Phil Mickelson for a four-ball lead. In the singles he lost to Jamie Donaldson, who won the deciding point for Europe and the Ryder Cup.
Europe confirmed last November that Luke Donald will lead the team for a second term after the victory in Rome.
No tiger (yet).
Tiger Woods, who previously indicated he was in talks with the PGA of America, has reportedly turned down the captaincy. “I spend so much time on what we do on the PGA Tour that I really don’t want to be captain if I don’t have time,” Woods said at the PGA Championship last May. . “Representing America’s team and all that comes with all the obligations to the PGA of America, the players and the fans – I have to feel that I can put in the time that I deserve.”
The Ryder Cup will be held in New York from September 26 to 28 next year.
Keegan Bradley is the captaincy officer. What a great move from the PGA of America. If Tiger doesn’t go all-in at the New York Ryder Cup, there’s no natural next man. Keegan will bring incredible energy and approach the captaincy from a different perspective as he is still a… pic.twitter.com/uyPJuehUAE
